The Rowans AP Academy

Inspiring change for a brighter future

Children's Play, Learning and Development

Pupils at The Rowans will study three compulsory units over the course of the year.

Unit 1 looks at the patterns of child development, including growth and development, the links between areas of development, characteristics of development and adult support.

Unit 2 looks at promoting children’s development through play. Pupils will gain an understanding of how play promotes development by encouraging children to participate in imaginative, heuristic, sensory and construction play.

Unit 3 is the principles of early years practice and asks pupils to think about inclusive practice and the empowerment of children.

This BTEC will offer pupils a great insight into childcare and could be the first step to a continuation in childcare either at further education, or as future employment.

Unit 1 is taken as an exam unit and the other 2 units are assessed internally.
