BTEC Level 1 Construction
The BTEC Construction course here at The Rowans is a highly practical and hands-on programme. The pupils really embrace the wide variety of projects to be undertaken and enjoy developing a range of skills in preparation for Post-16 education or future careers in the Construction industry. Pupils can opt to complete either the ‘Certificate’ (4 units) or the more challenging ‘Extended Certificate’ (8 Units) and the qualification is entirely coursework based. Pupils work through various practical tasks and activities to demonstrate their skills and knowledge in a particular trade, but also their adherence to H&S and responsible working practices, and their communication and team working skills. Common units of work include: Health & Safety, Starting work in Construction, Carpentry, Joinery, Decorating Household Goods, Bricklaying, Painting & Decorating, Technical Drawing and Manual Handling. The course is proving to be very successful; the pupils’ outcomes are professional and their skills are making a positive impact around the school.
