How to Report a Safeguarding Concern

If professionals have concerns about a child they should:

  • In the first instance, consult with their designated safeguarding lead or deputy designated safeguarding lead within the school
  • For immediate safeguarding concerns ring 01634 334466 – Medway’s First Response
  • Submit a referral and contact form for concerns at levels 2 – Family Solutions and 3.
  • From 9.30am till 12.30pm education professionals can have a non-named consultation with the first response service
  • Out of hours, number for concerns is: 03000419191
  • In the case of emergencies, call the Police: 999

When a pupil shares a concern or makes a disclosure, we will:

  • Take what we are being told seriously
  • Consider the voice (verbal, role play messages )
  • Listen carefully – and not interrupt
  • Acknowledge what we have been told
  • Remain calm
  • Reassure – tell them they have done the right thing
  • Tell them we will have to pass the information on and who we will be telling and why
  • Pass to the DSL/DDSL, recording on CPOMS and verbally if it is urgent

If a parent/carer or a member of the public has a concern about a child they should:

  • Call 999 if it is an emergency and the child is in immediate or imminent danger
  • Contact Medway social care on 01634 334466
  • Contact the school: 01634 338803 or help@therowansap.co.uk
