Duke of Edinburgh
The Rowans is now a fully licensed Duke of Edinburgh Centre. This means we can now independently run the award.
The DofE award is all about going the extra mile,. Pupils gain new skills, physically push themselves, help others and explore new surroundings. At the same time, they build friendships and create experiences and memories that will last a lifetime. The DofE award is unique and pupils can choose the activities that motivate them to go on their own personal journey. The award also offers pupils the chance to learn some geography skills.
At The Rowans pupils have the chance to complete the Bronze award. The Bronze award is made up of four sections, which are completed throughout the academic year for the required time periods:
- Volunteering (3 months)
- Physical (3 months)
- Skill (3 months)
- Expedition (2 days/1 night)
During the award, pupils learn valuable life skills, like learning to read an ordnance survey map, pitching a tent, independently cook using outdoor cooking equipment and most importantly be able to see a task through until the end.
The award instils a sense of determination among pupils, who strive for success and helps pupils stand out from the crowd when applying for college, university or jobs. The award is an excellent qualification to be able to put on your CV, showing resilience and teamwork.
