How to Report a Safeguarding Concern
If professionals have concerns about a child they should:
- In the first instance, consult with their designated safeguarding lead or deputy designated safeguarding lead within the school
- For immediate safeguarding concerns ring 01634 334466 – Medway’s First Response
- Submit a referral and contact form for concerns at levels 2 – Family Solutions and 3.
- From 9.30am till 12.30pm education professionals can have a non-named consultation with the first response service
- Out of hours, number for concerns is: 03000419191
- In the case of emergencies, call the Police: 999
When a pupil shares a concern or makes a disclosure, we will:
- Take what we are being told seriously
- Consider the voice (verbal, role play messages )
- Listen carefully – and not interrupt
- Acknowledge what we have been told
- Remain calm
- Reassure – tell them they have done the right thing
- Tell them we will have to pass the information on and who we will be telling and why
- Pass to the DSL/DDSL, recording on CPOMS and verbally if it is urgent
If a parent/carer or a member of the public has a concern about a child they should:
- Call 999 if it is an emergency and the child is in immediate or imminent danger
