The Rowans AP Academy

Inspiring change for a brighter future

Option choices

In Years 10 and 11, pupils choose their option choices for that year. Courses are condensed into a year so all pupils have the opportunity to gain a wide range of qualifications to ensure a greater choice of post 16 pathways are available.

Teachers signpost how their subjects can be used in the options assembly when they market their subjects to KS4 pupils. This showcases possible career paths and opens up discussions that pupils then can have with their teachers, TA’s and form tutors.

Our options choice includes; Photography, Media, Sport, Art, Science, Engineering, Cooking, Children’s play, learning and development, Design Technology, Land Based Studies, Construction, Engineering, CSCS Card, Textiles, . By teaching this wide variety of courses we can prepare our pupils for their future career paths.

To embed this throughout the school we have various displays around the school aimed to encourage and inspire pupils to think more widely and creatively when it comes to their career choices. The boards show what qualifications they need to aid their focus on their academic studies and also to encourage them really think about their work experience choices so that this valuable experience is not wasted. This aids us in placing pupils not just into post 16 choices that are expected but into post 16 placements that ensure every pupil continues to succeed into their adult life.
