This brand new course at the Rowans is designed to give students a wide range of learning experiences in the world of engineering.

Units are selected to give learners a taste of the different sectors within engineering through hands on and theoretical based practice.in addition, the course aims to aid learners in the successful completion of a careers and progression plan.

Careers is at the centre of every unit and all of the learning is based on career choices, working conditions and expectations of each role. 

Students are taught a range of techniques, which include; machining, bench fitting, welding, motor vehicle maintenance, bench work, manufacturing, CAD/CAM, CAD technician, thread generating and electronics.

The course is suitable for students who would like to explore a career in engineering, with successful completion leading to a college course within a chosen engineering sector or an apprenticeship. 

The units taught are as follows:

  • UNIT A1- Being organised
  • UNIT A2- Creating a progression plan
  • UNIT ENG5- Manufacturing using hand tools
  • UNIT ENG11- CAD
  • UNIT ENG 12-Motor vehicle maintenance

The course is graded as: Fail/Level 1 Pass/level 1 Merit/Level 1 Distinction
