The Rowans AP Academy

Inspiring change for a brighter future

Primary SEN

We are delighted to introduce The Inspiring Change Primary SEN provision to you. Currently, this is a Key Stage 2 provision.

This is a new SEN Primary Provision opened in September 2023 and part of The Inspiring Change Trust.  The Primary SEN provision is focused on providing exceptional care and tailored education for children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) as their primary need.

We recognise the diverse and distinctive challenges that SEMH children face on their educational journey and we have embarked on a mission to create a nurturing and inclusive environment where each child can thrive and flourish. Our vision is grounded in the belief that every child, irrespective of their individual circumstances, has the innate potential for growth and achievement. We are committed to unlocking this potential by offering an educational experience that is not only compassionate and supportive but also academically enriching.

Our team of dedicated staff is committed to the holistic development of your child. We understand that SEMH children require an educational program that goes beyond conventional learning. Our curriculum is carefully designed to address their unique needs, focusing on social and emotional development, while also catering to their academic growth.

The school is currently in a temporary purpose-built provision on the site of The Rowans AP Academy and the school benefits from sharing the resources of the secondary provision.

Currently, there are two classes of pupils who benefit from a creative and personalised curriculum and a trauma informed approach from all staff.  Teachers and pupils are supported by skilled behaviour and learning support assistants.

At ICSEN we;

  • emphasise the need for the curriculum and teaching to be adapted to each child to meet their individual needs.
  • prioritise emotional well-being, providing access to a therapist who can work closely with your child to address emotional and/or mental health concerns.
  • foster a strong sense of community where children can build positive relationships, learn from one another, and develop essential social skills, through a trauma informed approach.
  • offer high quality teaching from teachers who are trained to deliver high-quality learning that aligns with national standards while being flexible and adaptable to meet the diverse needs of our pupils.
  • believe that parents are essential partners in their child's education. We encourage open communication and collaboration between school and home to ensure the best outcomes for your child.

Our school is more than just an educational provision; it's a place where children can grow, learn, and thrive in an environment that truly understands and cares for them.

We look forward to getting to know you and your child and to creating a brighter and more promising future together.

All pupils have the right to a quality inclusive education which nurtures their social, emotional and physical health and well-being, promotes self-esteem and builds independence.

We believe strongly in the view that education is a powerful tool to change the course of a child’s life and that all children have the potential to become successful adults.  Strong and healthy relationships with the pupils and with each other mean that staff really know the pupils and their needs and can ensure success is achieved by providing exactly the right support. Learning is placed at the heart of all that we do and is key to the success and progress of pupils.
